"Working in the tech field, I love that no one tells me what to do; everyone carries out their tasks independently, which I really appreciate."
I grew up in Umnugovi province. In high school, I transferred to a city school with an advanced math program, and that’s where I developed a passion for mathematics. Following my teacher’s advice, I enrolled in the Engineering department at the National University of Mongolia. When I started studying Electronics Engineering in my second year, my goal was to work at Oyu Tolgoi after graduation.
As a student, I realized that things were different from what I had imagined. I noticed I wasn't learning as effectively while trying to keep up with my studies, so I decided to take a year off to find what I truly enjoyed. During that time, I listened to a podcast featuring Shagai, the founder of Pinecone Academy, and it inspired me to pursue a career in development. When I talked to my parents about it, they admitted they didn’t know much about this field but encouraged me to make my own choice, saying they’d support me no matter what. That really motivated me, and I immediately signed up for Pinecone.
At first, I was anxious and thought, "What if I can’t do this? What will happen?" But after some careful consideration and research, I felt more confident in my decision. While waiting for the autumn enrollment, I kept telling myself, "If something’s tough, I’ll just keep at it until I get it." I was quite nervous during the Leap program exam since they only accepted about half of the candidates.
I completed the Leap program in June 2023 and started working in August after the Naadam festival. My teacher emphasized the importance of being resourceful and solving problems independently, which encouraged me to explore and learn instead of shying away from the unknown. I really enjoy that in the tech industry, there’s a lot of freedom and autonomy; everyone can work in their own way. I plan to continue developing myself in this field.
There’s a common stereotype that girls aren’t suited for tech and that they perform worse than boys. But in this profession, gender doesn’t matter; everyone is capable of thinking critically. If someone tells you that you can’t do something, don’t let that discourage you—just give it a try. Women can be great engineers too.
If you’re thinking about joining the LEAP program, make sure to manage your time well and take initiative without waiting for everything from your teachers. I believe that with patience, rewards will come. Thank you!
